I have quite a list of pet peeves that involve art-- particularly comicbook art.
Boob socks. What are boob socks? Boob socks are when an artist draws a superheroine in costume that seems vacume sealed for each breast. In real life, for that to happen, the fabric would have to bulge individually for each breast. Which would look ridiculous. And the boob socks extend to unrelated things, like sweaters, t-shirts, and a few times - jackets. If you handed a sweater to a woman with boob socks in the front, I assure you, she'd be horrified. And if she pepper-sprays you, you're gettng off easy.
One of the brave new (not so new) artists who does NOT draw boob socks is Frank Cho. Example:
[link]See? No sacrifice of sexiness. And they actually look bigger that way, if that's what you're into. It's a win win, people.
Porn poses... I get that people want superheroines to be sexy. I am in fact a supporter of sexy heroines. I'm a supporter of sexy anything. But porn poses?
Really? There's nothing I hate more than a great superheroine who looks like she's traced from an issue of playboy- strike that, Hustler. Sexy is good. Trashy is bad. I do not want to see my heroes in poses that say "rape me anally"-- just sayin'.
Wedgies I wanted to lump this with porn poses, but thought it deserved it's own passage. There's snug, and there's the aggressively, obsessivly vacume sealed look certain artists give the ass-crack region. DO NOT WANT!
Also? Thongs that ride up over the pelvic bone produce wedgies. It's not the 1980's anymore. We don't need to draw pantylines that go over the bellybutton. The 80's were just a bad time-period--- pantyline-wise. Hair-wise...And just about everything-wise. Everything was bad except, She-Ra, Thundercats, my little pony and Frogger. That's a scientific fact.
Feminine hands. First off, feminine hands are great. But knowing how to means that long 80's style fingernails with red nail polish are no longer required. I don't even know anyone who wears red nail polish anymore (unless they have cute short rounded nails- which is the unwritten rule. I lied. It's a written rule, if you read Marie Claire magazine, that is. *cough*
Anyhoo.
Let me know when the skrull thing is over in the Marvel side of the playground. I think that'd be a good time to jump back in.
And (spoiler- no pun intended) is back! W00t!
