Its gonna be a while before I can finish this. I've got the charity commissions to do, and frankly I'm getting sick of looking at it and lost all objectivity. Maybe 2 weeks til I go back to it? It's about 50% done. Just thought I'd let you all see the progress of it before I put it away for the time being.
How do I color? Sometimes I apply color directly. In this case, I do a full greyscale and set "preserve transparency". Then I go to the Channels tab, click the dotted circle, which selects all the white parts. I go back to the layer and hit "backspace" to delete all the "white". That leaves me with just the tones. I paint one layer under that.
And then a bunch of layers on top of both. It sounds more complicated than it is. I think this method makes it look more like watercolor or gouache, which is why I like it.
The rectangle swatch is base colors. I reserve some spots for accent colors. That's pretty much it. Not exactly reinventing the wheel.
You're right, it does look like gouache or watercolor. And it's beautiful.
I admire your skill. Not everyone has the right sense of color to "paint" that well. For most people, red is just red, regardless of the lighting. But for artists like you, they see grays and blues and yellows, not just red.
God, I love your work. I'm not even that big of a Wonder Woman fan (although I am a huge Donna Troy fan), but every time you draw her I just get why someone would love her.
This is gorgeous so far. I especially like the light reflecting on everyone's armor, and everyone's varying expressions. I'm looking forward to seeing the final piece whenever you get around to finishing it!

Love the colors, and the cohesiveness of the armor even though each characters' is so different. The lighting is amazing, you really are fantastic at creating metallic tones^^ I was wondering, is the symbol on Donna's tiara something she's worn before or is it your own creation?

Looks great so far. And I just spotted another archeological artefact: Diana´s torc. It´s inspired by torcs of the Early La Tène period, like this one from Snettisham: [link]
I figured she could have something scythian to match Hippolyta. But it could be nordic as well! Maybe she found a keepsake from her adventures with Beowulf?
Rather not Skythian. They are too young for that. ^^ I´m not sure if these belong to the "real" Celtic culture or not. The one with the "belly" () may suggest so, because of its ornaments.
